On October 27, 2024, the 2nd AI Scientist Ecosystem Alliance Conference and AI Scientist Forum, themed “Building Infrastructure for AI Scientists and Igniting the Fire of a Paradigm Revolution,” was held at the University of Science and Technology of China.Academician Chang Jin, President of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC); Academician Ma Shengming of Zhejiang University; Academician Zhang Tongyi of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)/Shanghai University; Academician Xie Yi of USTC; and Academician Yang Jinlong, Vice President of USTC, among others, attended the conference.
The AI Scientist Ecosystem Alliance was jointly established by USTC and leading institutions in China in the field of intelligent matter science. It aims to promote the sharing of research-robot instruction sets, experiment template libraries, and scientific-agent frameworks; advance the adoption of standards for AI scientists and build supporting infrastructure; and drive a transformation in the data-intelligent scientific research paradigm.
Professor Luo Yi of USTC subsequently released the Alliance’s action agenda—the AI Scientist Ecosystem Alliance Declaration. The Alliance will build AI Scientist infrastructure nationwide, providing anytime, anywhere access to “scientific reasoning, precision experimentation and computing, and data analysis.” It will help humanity overcome individual limitations in physical strength, computing power, intellectual capacity, and disciplinary knowledge. Just as power infrastructure provides anytime, anywhere access to “electricity” and has helped humanity transcend the limits of individual physical strength, AI Scientist infrastructure will become the foundational “power grid” for next-generation productive capabilities.
